ORANGEBURG, SC – The Claflin Panthers (3-24) put on a solid effort, but the team came up short in a 16-1 loss to the Erskine Flying Fleet (18-19), Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers played a strong overall game with six hits. However, the team was hampered by five errors in the hard-fought loss.
Whie the team had its struggles in the field, the Panthers had a strong day at the plate. While the team allowed nine hits to the Fleet, the Panthers recorded six hits of their own, including a pair of doubles. Claflin freshman catcher
Lesley Johnson led the way with a two-for-two batting performance that included two doubles. Junior
LeAndre Turner added a one-for-three performance with a run scored.
The Panthers used seven pitchers in the game. Three different Panthers recorded a strikeout each.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 3-24 overall. The team will return to action, Friday evening when the team hosts the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks in a 6:00 p.m. game.
