ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (7-8) used a late rally to secure a 6-3 upset win over the Anderson (S.C.) Trojans (14-4). In addition to securing an upset win over the Trojans, the win also marked the 50^th career victory for Claflin softball head coach Ricky Holden.
 
The Lady Panthers combined some great defense with a tremendous late rally to claim the win. After holding the Trojans to just one first inning run in the first four innings, the Lady Panthers secured their first lead of the game in the fourth inning when junior third base Morgan Tate hit a two-RBI single. The Lady Panthers took advantage of a pair of Anderson (S.C.) errors to score back-to-back fifth inning runs to take a 4-1 lead. From there, the Lady Panthers allowed a pair of Trojan runs to cut the Claflin lead down to one run, 4-3. However, a two-RBI triple from senior second base Aniyah Jackson gave the Lady Panthers the lead for good, 6-3. From there, the Lady Panthers turned to their defense to seal the win.
 
As a team, the Lady Panthers had a great overall game. The team recorded five hits in the game. Junior second base Michaela Cromarty led the way with a two-for-three batting performance with a run scored. Tate added a one-for-three batting effort with two runs batted in (RBI) while Jackson added three RBI.
 
Claflin junior Sydra Pendelton (3-2) got the start and secured the win. She threw all seven innings and she finished the game with two strikeouts.
 
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 7-8 overall. The team will break for a while before they host the USA Aiken Pacers in a doubleheader.
