Scott Nestor
Head Baseball Coach
Claflin University
On August 18, 2022, Claflin baseball entered a new era when Scott Nestor was named the head baseball coach at Claflin University. With a unique vision and passion for the game, Nestor will look to build upon the program’s tradition and lead the team into a bright future.
“My vision is simple. We are going to be a highly motivated group who will outwork our opponents,” said Nestor. “We are going to hold ourselves accountable, not just for our performance on the field, but how we carry ourselves and our actions off the field as well.”
Taking the reins of the Panthers’ baseball program is the next step in an already impressive career for Nestor. Most recently, he served as a volunteer assistant coach at NCAA Division I Villanova where he helped the Wildcats win 19 games during the 2022 season. Prior to joining the Wildcats’ staff, Nestor spent a season as an assistant coach at Savannah State University. He also spent three seasons at Rochester University. While with the Yellowjackets, he helped to lead the team to the 2019 Liberty League Championship and reached the NCAA Division II Regionals. The team also reached the finals of the Liberty League Championships in 2018. The championship runs were a part of Nestor’s second stint with the Yellowjackets. It was at Rochester where Nestor began his collegiate coaching career. From 2013-15, Nestor served as an assistant coach with the Yellowjackets where he assisted in guiding the team to back-to-back trips to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) World Series. During this time, the Yellowjackets had seven USCAA All-Americans and the 2015 USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year. Nestor also spent two years at Seaholm High School where he led the junior varsity team to a 31-11 record over two seasons.
Coach isn’t the only time that Nestor’s management skills have come to the forefront. He spent four years as the Coordinator of Development/Camp Director at the Varsity Shop Training Center in Bloomfield, Michigan while also serving as the Director of Operations for the Oakland Bulldogs baseball team. He managed several duties regarding camp and team development in addition to representing the team and facility in the community.
Nestor is a 2011 graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
