Tacoya joined the Lady Panthers in the fall of 2024. She came to Claflin as a graduate of Bluffton High School where she had a great career. She was a two-time Region Player of the Year and she was named to the 2024 Carolina Classic All-Star Team. She was a four-time all-state, two-time Region Co-Player of the Year, a four-time team MVP, and she holds the school record for points in a game and she is the all-time leading scorer. She also competed in track & field. She was also an academic star as she earned a spot in the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and she graduated with distinction. She is a Criminal Justice major and she is the daughter of Kenya Barkley and Terrence Heyward.
