Claflin University volleyball entered a new era when Lauren Calvin was named the interim volleyball head coach for the Lady Panthers. When Claflin University needed guidance into its future, the team turned to its past. With a strong passion and knowledge of the game, Calvin is well-prepared to take Lady Panthers volleyball into its next chapter.
The game of volleyball has been a part of Calvin’s life for years. She grew up learning the game in Vienna, Austria and she was trained by coaches from various countries in Europe. She was invited to compete on the national team, but she declined the opportunity to compete on the collegiate level.
When she competed at the collegiate level, Calvin chose to do so at Claflin University. She even turned down a full scholarship to Coastal Carolina so that she could join the Lady Panther family. She was a member of the Lady Panthers volleyball team from 2010-12 where she had a great career. She was a three-time Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) all-conference honoree. She finished her career with 669 total kills, 69 service aces, and 228 total blocks (72 solo).
Calvin has been an active volleyball coach for the past two years. She has served as the head coach of national elite teams for the South Carolina Midlands where she has guided her teams to bids to nationals in both years.
In addition to leading the Lady Panthers volleyball program, Calvin is also the owner/manager of Volleyball University, an elite volleyball training academy, and she is the founder of The Village – Holistic Doula Services.
She is a mother of six and a member of the Gamma Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
