Box Score Carrollton, Ga.—The Claflin University men's basketball team fell to the University West Georgia, 73-78, in its 2014-15 season opener. The contest was the Panthers first game of the SIAC/GSC Challenge presented by Wentz Financial and hosted by the University of West Georgia. Claflin will face Lee University tomorrow at 4 p.m. in their final game of the Challenge.
Claflin was led by Senior Arthur Talley, who recorded a double-double, 18 points (6-10 from the field) with 10 rebounds and two blocks. The Panthers had four Panther players in double-figures as senior Kendall Jackson scored 16, junior Adolph Caldwell had 13 and sophomore Patrell Rogers dropped in 10 points. Jackson also grabbed seven rebounds for the Panthers in the contest.
West Georgia was led on the night by Deonta Stocks with a game-high 20 points. Alex Abreu, who connected on seven-of-eight from the free-throw line, scored 17 and Jovany Austin dropped in 11 for the Wolves. Emory Bernard pulled in seven rebounds and Abreu cleared six as for West Georgia.
