Claflin Host Clayton State in Non-Conference Men’s Basketball Contest

Orangeburg, S.C.--The Claflin University men's basketball team will look to snap its two-game losing streak, tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, when they host Clayton State in a non-conference contest. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. in Tullis Arena on the campus of Claflin University.

In their last outing, Claflin (2-4) fell to Elizabeth City by four 76-80 on Tuesday (Dec. 2). Patrell Rogers dropped in a game-high 29 points and Fare'al Walker pulled in a 10 rebounds in the loss. The Panthers enters the game with four players averaging in double-figures led by Kendall Jackson at 13.7 per outing. Patrell Rogers is averaging 11.5, Carlton Johnson 11.3 and Arthur Talley is averaging 10.8 points per game. Walker leads the team in rebounding at 5.3 boards per outing. Claflin is averaging 74.2 points and 34 rebounds per outing.

Clayton State, who have won their last two games, enters the tomorrows contest with a 6-1 record. The Lakers defeated Carson Newman, 62-58, in overtime on Tuesday (Dec. 2). Jamil McKee is leading the Lakers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Clayton State has five players averaging double-figures as Terry Kelly is averaging 14.4, JC Bonny is scoring 12.3 and Jaiquan Terry and Dantez Bennamon are averaging 11.9 and 10.1, respectively. Collectively, the Lakers are averaging 80 points and 41 rebounds per game.

Claflin will travel to Elizabeth City, N.C., December 18 to take on the Vikings of Elizabeth City for the second time in two weeks. The Panthers will close out the 2014 calendar year on Saturday, Dec. 20 when they host Florida Tech in their final a non-conference game of the 2014-15 season.
