Claflin Closeout 2014-15 Regular Season at Benedict

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University men's basketball team will face interstate rival Benedict College, in its 2014-15 regular season finale, tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 19 in Columbia, S.C.  The Panthers will be looking for the season sweep of the Tigers, who they defeated by one point earlier this month in Orangeburg.
 
The Panthers, who enters the game with a 14-3 overall record and 11-7 SIAC, currently sit in fourth in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division.  The Tigers enters the game with a 14-9 overall record and 12-5 in the SIAC East Division.  A win over Benedict, will put Claflin one game behind the Tigers for the race for the third position.  Benedict will face Paine College in its 2014-15 finale on Saturday.
 
"This game is huge, as far as tournament seeding is concerned," coach head coach Ricky Jackson said.  "A win will also do a lot for the growth of the program.
 
Coach Jackson is also instilling in his guys the importance of not underestimating any team heading into the tournament.  "All teams are good at this time of year," said Jackson.  "We have to control what we can control and the score will take care of itself." 
 
Junior Adolph "AJ" Caldwell leads the Panthers in scoring at 14.2 points per game.  Patrell Rogers is averaging 10.7 points while Ryan McNeill-Moses is averaging 9.6 points and leads the team in rebounding at 7.1 boards per outing.
 
After tomorrow, the Panthers will have 10 days off before heading to Birmingham, Ala. to participate in the 2015 SIAC women's basketball tournament which will be held the week of March 2-7.
