Claflin Splits Non-Conference Baseball Doubleheader with Lincoln University

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Lincoln University, dropping Game One 0-2 and winning Game Two, 4-1. 
 
Claflin (2-13) scored in the first three innings of Game Two, putting up one run in the first, two in the second and one in the third to take the 4-0 advantage.  Lincoln (1-2) put up one run in the top of the fourth to close the gap to three runs, 4-1.  Neither team was able to score over the next two innings as the Panthers were able to capture the three run victory and snap its 11 game losing streak.
 
Claflin got runs from Reginald Rogers, Anthony Ford, Jalen Thompson and Thomas Clay in the contest.  The Panthers put up five hits with four RBI's in the victory.  Darius Boykins pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts to pick up the win.
 
Lincoln's lone run was scored by DeVante Parker.  Demetrius Robinson went three innings and gave up all four runs with zero strikeouts to pick up the loss in Game One.
 
In Game Once, Lincoln scored one run in the first and one in the seventh but held Claflin scoreless over the game en route to the 0-2 win.  Despite the loss the Panthers put up four hits including a double by Johnny StevensonJustin Vreeland pitched a complete game with four strikeouts to pick up the loss.
 
Terrell Berringer and Brandon Bolden each scored one run while Sam Garmore went 6 ½ innings with two strikeouts to pick up the Game One win.  Crae Watkins was credited with the save.
 
The Panthers will return to action next Tuesday, March 3 when they host Armstrong Atlantic in a 3 p.m. single game at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg.
