Claflin Splits Non-Conference Baseball Doubleheader with Saint Augustine’s

Raleigh, N.C.—The Claflin University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Saint Augustine's, winning Game One 8-2 and dropping Game Two, 0-2.
 
Claflin had balanced scoring in Game One.  Sixto Guerrero paced the Panthers with two runs off two hits, a walk and two RBI's.  Rashad Bivens scored two runs, while Jabari Brown, Reginald Rogers, Wendell Ferguson, and Johnny Stevenson each scored one run in the contest.  Keamond Eison, who pitched five and two-thirds innings in relief, picked up the win for Claflin.
 
Guerrero and Jesse Minter had the only two hits for the Panthers in Game Two. Despite the loss, the Panthers defensive stayed solid, allowing only four hits over the seven innings.   Derek Long, who gave up only one earned run in three innings of work, was the loser of Game Two.
 
The Panthers will return to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play this weekend when they host Benedict College Saturday-Sunday, March 28-29.  First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 12 noon while Sunday's single game is set for a 1 p.m. start.
