Claflin Falls to Benedict in SIAC Baseball Contest

Orangeburg, S.C.--The Benedict College Tigers defeated the Claflin University Panthers, 12-4, in the final game of a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) three-game series Sunday at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
The loss, which snapped an eight-game SIAC winning streak, dropped Claflin to 14-20 overall and 10-2 in the East Division.
 
Benedict improved its season record to 13-14 overall and 6-4 in the East Division.
 
Benedict scored one run in each of the first three innings and five in the fourth to take an 8-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.  The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to four runs.  The Tigers tacked one run in the sixth and three in the seventh while holding Claflin scoreless over the last five innings en route to the eight run win.
 
Claflin collected seven hits in the game with Jabari Brown and Jalen Thompson pounding out two hits and an RBI each.
 
David White led an 11-hit Benedict attack with a pair of home runs and 4RBIs. Andre Collum had three hits and drove in three runs.
 
Aaron Perry took the loss for the Panthers while Yaniel Delgado picked the win for the Tigers.
 
Claflin will return action this Tuesday, March 31 against Coker College in a non-conference contest.  First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg.
