Claflin Defeats Tuskegee in Extra Innings in the Opening Round of the 2015 SIAC Baseball Tournament

Columbia, S.C.--The Claflin University Panthers scored an unearned in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers, 4-3, in the openeing round of the 2015 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) baseball tournament, Thursday at Capital City Stadium in Columbia.
 
With the win, Claflin improved to 18-27 and will face Western Division champion Stillman College Friday at 3 p.m. in the winner's bracket.
 
Tuskegee dropped to 15-22 and will take on Paine College in an elimination game at 9 a.m. Friday.
 
The Panthers scored the winning run with one out.  Jesse Minter reached first on an error with no outs and later stolen second.  Johnny Stevenson flied out to center for the Panthers second out.   Minter stolen third which put him in scoring position. He would later score off a pass ball with Harold Smith at the plate.
 
Claflin took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning on Jalen Thompson's run-scoring double which drove home Reginald Rogers.
 
Tuskegee tied the game in the sixth at 1-1 and took the one run lead in the seventh at 2-1.  The Panthers regained the lead in their half of the seventh as Minter, who had two hits on the day, pushed across a pair of runs with a double.
 
The Golden Tigers tied the contest at 3-3 in the eighth and neither team scored in the ninth to force extra innings.
 
For Claflin, Rogers was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and Sixto Guerrero added two hits. The Panthers collected nine hits in the game along with three stolen bases, two by Minter.
 
Timothy Brock, Jr. and Alexander Henderson had two hits each to lead Tuskegee.
 
Darius Boykins picked up the win in relief of Anthony Ford. Ford pitched eight strong innings, surrendering seven hits, one earned run to go with eight strike outs and one walk.  Boykins pitched the final two innings, facing just six batters, with no hits and three striking outs.
 
Marquez Colbert took the loss for the Golden Tigers.
