Claflin Defeats Paine in Final Game of SIAC Series

Augusta, Ga. (04-04-15)—After dropping the first two games of its Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series with Paine College, the Claflin University baseball team bounced back nicely, defeating the Lions, 12-2, in the final game of the series.  With the win the Panthers improves to 15-23 overall and 11-4 in the SIAC.
 
Claflin, who currently sit in the top spot in the East Division of the SIAC, scored one run in the first, eight in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth inning en route to its 12 runs.  Rashad Bivens led the way with four hits, including a triple and a homerun, with three runs and one RBI.  Jalen Thompson went two-for-four with three runs and one RBI in the contest.
 
Senior Anthony Ford pitched a complete game, facing 35 batters with six strikeouts.
 
The Panthers will travel to Florence, S.C. this Tuesday, Apr. 7 to take on Francis Marion in a non-conference contest.  Claflin return to conference play this weekend, when they host Albany State in its final SIAC home series of the season.
