McNeill-Moses, Dantzler Propels Claflin Past Spring Hill

Orangeburg, S.C. – Ryan McNeill-Moses four free throws down the stretch and Trevor Dantzler's pair of three-point baskets propelled the Claflin University Panthers to a 63-60 win over Spring Hill College Saturday at the Tullis Arena.

With the hard-fought victory, Claflin pushed its season record 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Karee Watson led the Panthers with a season-high 15 points and eight rebounds. McNeill-Moses and Adolph Caldwell tossed in eight points each. Austin Lawton pulled down 11 rebounds to go with seven points.

Walter Massey led Spring Hill, now 4-10 overall and 3-4 in the conference, with a game-high 19 points.

Trailing 53-50 with six minutes left, Dantzler came off the bench to drill back-to-back three pointers. Dantzler baskets gave Claflin the lead for good at 56-53 with 5:13 remaining. Spring Hill could get no closer than three points in the closing seconds. McNeill-Moses kept Spring Hill at bay, hitting four straight free throws.

The two teams played on even terms in the first half that resulted in a 31-31 tie at the halftime.

Claflin scored the game's first four points of the game, but Spring Hill rallied to take a 14-8 at the with 11:54 mark. Spring Hill held the advantage until Brian Townsend scored on inside basket with 5:42 left in the first half, putting the Panthers on top at 22-21.

After several lead changes, including a five-point margin by Spring Hill at 31-26, Claflin fought back to tie the game. DaVante' Anderson scored the last five points of the half for the Panthers, knotting the contest at 31-31 at intermission.

Claflin will host Albany State University Thursday at the Jonas T. Kennedy Center for Military/ROTC Day. The contest will follow the women's matchup at approximately 7:30 p.m. All current and former members of the military with valid ID will be admitted for $5.
