Claflin Host Albany State Thursday in SIAC Men’s Basketball Matchup

Orangeburg, S.C.--The Claflin University men's basketball team will host fellow Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) member Albany State University, Thursday, Jan. 21 in Tullis Arena. The contest will follow the women's matchup at approximately 7:30 p.m. It will be Military/ROTC Day. All current and former members of the military with valid ID will be admitted for $5. Tickets must be purchased at the door.

The Panthers will be in search of their third straight win. In its last outing, Claflin won a hard-fought 63-60 decision over conference foe Spring Hill College. The victory improved the Panthers to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in the SIAC.

Junior guard Patrell Rogers leads the Claflin offensive attack, averaging 14.7 points. Senior guard Adolph Caldwell is second on the team in scoring with 11.7 points off the bench.

On the frontline, the Panthers feature the trio of junior forward Ryan McNeill-Moses, senior forward Karee Watson and red-shirted freshman Austin Lawson at the center position.

McNeill-Moses is contributing 6.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assist per outing. He's second on the team in blocked shots with 18. Watson, who posted a season–high 15 points and eight rebounds in the Panthers win over Spring Hill, is averaging 6.5 points and 5.7 rebounds. Lawson leads the SIAC in block shots with 38 and near the top in rebounds at 6.7 a game. He's scoring 7.9 points a game.

Albany State, 2-14 overall with only one win in seven league games, is led by Earl Farnum at 12.9 points per outing.

The Panthers will closeout its three-game home-stand Saturday, Jan. 23 when they host Fort Valley State University.
