Claflin Men’s Basketball Host Interstate Rival Benedict Saturday

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University men's basketball team will host interstate rivals Benedict College, Saturday, Jan. 30 at Tullis Arena on the Claflin University campus. Tip-off is immediately following the women's game at approximately 8 p.m.

Claflin enters the game with a 9-10 overall record and 5-6 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Patrell Rogers is averaging 15.3 points per outing to lead the Panthers. Adolph Caldwell is averaging 10 points while Ryan McNeill-Moses is averaging 8.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Austin Lawton is averaging 7.6 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 board per contest.

Benedict, who is ranked 6^th in the Men's Basketball Division II media poll sponsored by D2SIDA, has four players averaging in double-figures led by Quayshun Hawkins who is averaging 12.4 points per game. Jordan Smith is scoring 13.9 points, Brennan Reynard is contributing 12 points and Rydealous Taylor is dropping in 10 points per game. Christopher Spencer and Lafonzo Smith are averaging 6.2 and 6.4 rebounds, respectively for Benedict, who enters the contest with a 14-6 overall record and 9-2 in the SIAC.

This will be the 17^th meeting between the two teams since the 2007-08 season. Benedict owns a slight 9-7 overall advantage. Claflin has won the last three-of-four meetings including a sweep of the Tigers in 2014-15.
