Claflin Men’s Basketball Seeks Second Straight Regular Season Sweep of Benedict

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University men's team will closeout its 2016 road season at Benedict this Saturday, Feb. 13 in Columbia, S.C. The Panthers, who defeated Benedict 77-70 in overtime on January 30, will be seeking the season sweep of the Tigers.

Claflin enters the contest at 12-11 overall and 8-7 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Patrell Rogers leads three Panther players in double figures at 12.7 points per outing. Ryan McNeill-Moses and Adolph Caldwell are averaging 11.3 and 10.2 points, respectively. Red-shirt freshman Austin Lawton is having an outstanding first season. He is averaging 9.9 points with a team leading 8.3 rebounds. Lawton is ranked No. 9 in the nation in block shots averaging 2.86 per outing.

The Tigers brings a 15-9 overall record and 10-5 conference record into the contest. The Tigers has three players averaging in double-figures led by Jordan Smith at 13.4 points per game. Brennan Reynard is averaging 12.3 points and Quayshun Hawkins is averaging 11.4 per outing. Lafonzo Smith is leading the Tigers in rebounding at 6.9 boards per outing.

The Panthers will host Morehouse College on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. before closing out its 2016 regular season next Saturday, Feb. 20, when they host Clark Atlanta in a SIAC contest. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. in Tullis Arena on the campus of Claflin University. It will be senior day for the Panthers.
