Claflin falls to Lincoln Memorial in Baseball Home-opener

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University baseball team fell to Lincoln Memorial University 18-4 Monday in their home-opener at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
The loss dropped the Panthers to 0-4.
 
Rashad Bivens accounted for four of the Panthers five runs. The 2015 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) player of the year drove in Claflin's first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Bivens' RBI drove home Jesse Minter from third base.
 
The Panthers struck for four runs in their half of the seventh inning.
 
Bivens provided two runs with an RBI double that brought home Jalen Thompson and Minter.  He later scored from third base on a wild pitch.  Johnny Stevenson scored Claflin's last run on off a pass ball.
 
Torriun Towers suffered the loss for Claflin.
 
Zac Bulter picked up the win for Lincoln Memorial, now 2-2 on the season.
 
Claflin will return to the diamond Wednesday, hosting Florida Memorial University in a non-conference double-header. Both games will be played at Historic Mirmow Field. The first game is set to start 1 p.m. with the second game to following approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
