Claflin Sweeps Morehouse in SIAC Three-Game Baseball Series

Atlanta, Ga.—The Claflin University baseball team won all three games of its Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Series (SIAC) with Morehouse College last Friday and Saturday, March 25-26, in Atlanta, Ga.  The Panthers held the Maroon Tigers to just 13 total runs over the three games.  Claflin defeated Morehouse 9-4 and 9-3 in Saturday's doubleheader.  In Sunday's single game, the Panthers defeated the Maroon Tigers 15-6.
 
Claflin combined for 23 hits with 18 runs and 18 RBI's on Saturday.
 
In Game one of the doubleheader, Jalen Thompson and Rashad Hilton each crossed the plate twice.  Thompson had a well-balanced game as he knocked out two hits including a homerun with three RBI's.  Hilton also had multiple hits in the contest with two.  The Panthers finished the game with 13 hits, including, two homeruns as Christopher Gilliam knocked out a two-run homer in the contest.
 
Lyndale Morley, this week's SIAC Pitcher of the Week, pitched all seven innings giving up just four runs (3 earned) against 32 batters faced to pick up the win.
 
Game Two of the double-header was a mirror-image of Game One, finishing with nine runs off 10 hits.  Gilliam was the offensive star in the contest, knocking out a three-run homer with two runs and two RBI's.  Reginald Rogers also had a solid performance as he finished with two runs off two hits, including a homerun, with three RBI's. 
 
Jamal Devin picked up the win in Game Two, going three innings and allowing all three runs.
 
Sunday's single game was no contest for Claflin, as they knocked out a season highs in hits and RBI's with 21 and 14, respectively. 
 
Rashad Bivens paced the Panthers with three runs off two hits, both homeruns, and five RBI's.  Rogers had another solid performance with two runs off three hits with two RBI's while Jabari Brown crossed the plate on two occasions with two hits and one RBI.
 
Dillon Parker, who went six innings, allowing just two runs with two strikeouts, was the winning pitcher in the contest.
 
Claflin will host Coker College in a non-conference single game on Wednesday, March 30.  First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg, S.C.
