Claflin Sweeps Kentucky State in SIAC Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University Panthers used strong pitching performances from Emanuel Mitchell and Keamond Eison in sweeping Kentucky State, 4-0 and 5-3 Saturday (Apr. 23) in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
With the win, Claflin now raised its overall season record to 20-26 and improves to 13-7 in the conference play.
 
Kentucky State fell to 12-28 overall and 7-13 in the SIAC.
 
The two teams will close out the regular season Sunday in the series finale game at 12 noon.
 
In the first game, Mitchell, 2-1, allowed Kentucky State only two hits over six innings.  He gave way to Dillon Parker, who pitched a scoreless seventh.
 
Kodie Girton took the loss for Kentucky State.
 
Rashad Bivens provided Claflin all the run it would need with a solo home run in the second inning. Bivens had two hits in the contest.
 
Reginald Rogers had two RBI's in the contest as he knocked out a single in the third that scored Elliott Melton and Jabari Brown
 
Claflin added an unearned run in the fourth.
 
In the second game, Eison, 3-2, held Kentucky State in check over five innings with just three hits. Eison gave up one run.
 
Derek Long and Parker pitched the final two innings allowing the final Thorobreds two runs.
 
Chae Brown suffered the loss for Kentucky State.
 
The Panthers swiped out an early 1-0 Kentucky State lead with a three-run second inning.  The Panthers added an unearned run in the fourth off an RBI single by Rogers.
 
Morley led the Panthers with two hits and 2 RBIs. Rogers had two hits and an RBI.
