Claflin Baseball Falls to Kentucky State in Regular Season Finale

Orangeburg, S.C. - The Claflin University baseball closed out its regular season on a disappointing note Sunday, falling to Kentucky State 13-7 in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
Claflin, which won the series at 2-1, finished the regular campaign 20-27 overall and 13-8 in the SIAC.
 
The Panthers pounded out 12 hits, but committed five errors, hit into two double plays and a triple play. They also left 10 runners on base.
 
Claflin was led at the plate by Jeturi Brown with a pair of hits and 2 RBIs. Jalen Thompson also had two hits and drove in a run.
 
Christopher Gilliam, Lyndale Morley and Johnny Stevenson contributed two hits each.
 
Kentucky State raced out to a 5-1 lead after innings and increased that margin to 10-3 after seven.
 
The Panthers rallied for four runs in the eighth, cutting the lead to 10-7, but Kentucky State reposed with three in the ninth.
 
Josh Dunn picked up the win for Kentucky State, which finished the regular season 12-26 overall and 8-12 in the conference.
 
Wendell Ferguson was the losing pitcher for Claflin, who will travel Ozark, Ala. to participate in the SIAC tournament this Thursday-Sunday, Apr. 28-May 1.
