Claflin Comes From Behind to Defeat Miles in Opening Game of SIAC Baseball Tournament

Ozark, Ala.—The Claflin University baseball team came defeated Miles College, 12-7, in the opening game of the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) baseball tournament.
 
With the win, Claflin (21-28) remain in the winner's bracket and will face the winner of the Albany State/Tuskegee contest, tomorrow, Apr. 29 at 6 p.m. CST.
 
Reginald Rogers went 4-of-6 with two runs and one RBI and Elliott Melton went 3-for-5 including a homerun with two runs and one RBI to pace Claflin,
 
The Panthers had four players to finish with multiple runs as Jabari Brown and Jalen Thompson each crossed the plate twice.  Lyndale Morley had four hits and two RBI's for Claflin, who knocked out 17 total hits in the game.
 
Miles College (26-16) was led by Ryan Bargery who scored two runs off two hits with one RBI.
 
Claflin jumped out to a 5-1 advantage after the top of the second.  The Golden Bears countered with six runs to take a 7-5 lead after two complete innings.
 
After both teams went scoreless over the next three innings, the Panthers put one run up in the top of the sixth to pull within one, 7-6.  Claflin scored three runs in both the seventh and eighth and held Miles scoreless over the final four innings en route to the 12-7 victory.
 
 Jamal Devine picked up the win for Claflin and Austin Pate was the losing pitcher for Miles.
