Claflin Falls to Coker in Non-Conference Baseball Contest

Hartsville, S.C.—The Claflin University baseball team fell to Coker College, 15-10, in a non-conference baseball contest, Wednesday at Tom J. New field in Hartsville, S.C.  With the loss the Panthers fall to 15-22 overall.
 
Senior Jabari Brown had a solid performance as he went 3-for-5 with three runs, a double and one stolen base.  Junior Reginald Rogers went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs for Claflin.
 
Claflin opened the scoring of the game, putting up one run in the top of the first.  Coker quickly counted scoring three runs in its half of the first.  The Cobras put up two runs in the third to take the 5-1 run. 
 
The Panthers scored one run in the top of the fourth, but Coker bats remained hot as they put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 9-2 lead.
 
After neither team crossed the plate in the fifth, Claflin offensive intensity increased.  The Panthers put up four runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to three, 9-6.  Coker scored six runs over the next three innings while allowing four Panther runs en route to the five point victory.
 
Claflin will return to home this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 9-10, to host Paine College in a pivotal Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) three-game series.  Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch while Sunday's senior game will also have a 1 p.m. start.
