Valentine-Parris Finish Strong at 2016 Olympics

Orangeburg, S.C.—In his first-ever Olympic games, Claflin University men's track standout and the University's first-ever Olympian Brandon Valentine-Parris failed to advance in the 400 meters at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Valentine-Parris, who was running in the heat alongside reigning world champion Wayde van Niekerk, finished eighth in his heat in a time of 47.62 seconds.  The top three finishers from each heat automatically advance to the next round.

The Olympics capped off an outstanding 2016 outdoor season for Valentine-Parris which included a personal best time of 46.11 which he ran during the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championships in April.

The track and field portion of the Olympics will run thru Sunday, Aug. 21 with the men's 400 meter finals set for 7:15 pm on Sunday, Aug. 14.
