Claflin Men Closeout Road Swing at Winston-Salem State Monday

Orangeburg, S.C. -- The Claflin University men's basketball team will try closeout a seven-game road trip unbeaten, Monday (Dec. 4), when they face Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) member Winston-Salem State University.
 
The contest gets underway at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center on the Winston-Salem State campus.
 
Claflin will bring an impressive 8-1 record into the non-conference match that includes a seven-game win streak. The last time the Panthers loss was the second game of season (Nov. 11), a 61-52 decision to the University of Montevallo. Claflin rebounded from the defeat with a 76-62 homecoming win (Nov. 18) over Young Harris College before embarking on the current seven-game road trip.
 
During the win streak, Claflin has knocked off four Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opponents (Lane College, LeMoyne-Owen College, Albany State University and Fort Valley State University) and a CIAA team to go with a second win over Young Harris.
 
The Panthers are averaging 69.1 points and are allowing 56.7 points, shooting 174-of-398 (43.7%) from the field, 39-of-109 (35.8%) in three-point field goals, and 38 blocks over the period.
 
Winston-Salem State will enter the contest fresh off a 72-70 non-conference win over Bluefield State College on Friday.
 
The Rams had a dunk and three key free throws in the final minutes of play in claiming their second win of the season in eight outings.
 
The last meeting between the teams was during the 2015-16 season.  Claflin won a hard-fought game, 81-77, in Orangeburg.
