Claflin Drops Non-conference Baseball Contest to Florida Southern

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University baseball team dropped its second straight contest to Florida Southern College (FSC), falling 25-7 in an afternoon game Saturday at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg.
 
With the loss, the Panthers falls to 1-9 overall.
 
FSC improved to 7-2 on the season.
 
The teams will meet in the final game of the series tomorrow, Sunday, Feb 19 at 1 p.m.
 
Lyndale Morley went 2-for-4 with two runs and Rashad Webster went 1-for-3 with one run and 4 RBIs to lead the Panthers.
 
The Mocs was led by Omar Williams who went 4-for-6 with four runs and three RBIs.
 
FSC jumped out to a quick two run lead in the top first.
 
Claflin got one of the runs back in the bottom of the first as Reginald Rogers scored off a ground out by Jeturi Brown.
 
After both teams went scoreless in the second, the Mocs had a breakout third inning.  FSC put up seven runs in the inning to stretch the lead to eight, 9-1.
 
After holding the Mocs scoreless in the top of the fourth, the Panthers offense came to life.  With one out and the bases loaded, Rashad Webster hit a grand slam to cut the deficit to four, 9-5, and put the Panthers back in striking distance.
 
FSC scored six runs in the top of the fifth to push the lead to 10 (15-5).
 
Claflin put up two runs in its half of the inning to cut the lead to single digits (15-7) but could not get any other offense the remainder of the game.
 
The Mocs scored runs in three of the final four innings, one in the sixth, eight in the seventh, and one in the eighth en route to the victory.
