Claflin to Battle Clark Atlanta in Crucial SIAC Men’s Basketball Contest

Orangeburg, S.C.--The Claflin University Panthers returns to the confines of Tullis Arena to host another Panther squad, Clark Atlanta University, in a crucial Southern Intercollegiate Athletic conference (SIAC) men's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 4) at 3:30 p.m.
 
The contest will be Senior Day as the program honors five Panther players: Ryan McNeill-Moses, De'shon Nails, Trevor Dantzler, DeVanté Anderson and Nikola Drobujak.
 
Claflin will enter the contest fresh off a come-from-behind, 56-51, road win over divisional member Benedict College. The victory gave the Panthers a 13-5 overall record and 8-2 bill in the SIAC, losing only to Central State University 81-72 and Fort Valley State University 71-70.
 
Clark Atlanta, 14-8 on the season, is right on the heels of Claflin in conference play with an 8-3 record. Clark Atlanta is 5-1 in its last six games.
 
Claflin will be led into the divisional battle by McNeill-Moses and Austin Lawton.
 
McNeill-Moses, a forward, leads the team in scoring at 12.6 points. He has been the Panthers top scorer in five of the last nine games.
 
Lawton, the Panthers red-shirt sophomore center is averaging 9.8 points.
 
McNeill-Moses and Lawton are tied for the team lead in rebounding at 5.6 each.
 
Junior shooting guard Benjamin Williams is tipping the scale at a 9.4 point, while point guard Triston Thompson, a sophomore, is averaging 8.9 points and 3.0 assists.
 
Clark Atlanta is led offensively by Tim Sanders at 13.4 points per game. Derek Harper is next in scoring for Clark Atlanta with 12.6 points.
 
Claflin won both meetings last season; 94-70 in Orangeburg and 75-73 on the road.
 
Claflin will close out its two-game home stand Monday (Feb. 6) against Morehouse College at 7:30 p.m.
