Claflin Splits with Albany State in 2017 SIAC Softball Opener

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team splits its 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opener with Albany State University, falling in game one 9-7 in nine innings and winning game two 6-3.
 
With the split, the Lady Panthers improves to 10-12 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC.  The Lady Rams goes to 8-13 overall record and 4-1 in the SIAC on the season.
 
Senior Chelsea Hall led Claflin offensively with three runs, two hits and four RBIs with one walk.  Hall also had one stolen base on the day bringing her season total to 24.
 
Sophomore LaKaylin Lee was also effective offensively with three runs, two hits and one RBI.
 
Albany State was led by Tori Coleman with two runs, four hits and three RBIs.
 
Shaquailla German went all seven innings to pick up the win in game two.  Tiaria Norman was the loser in game two.
 
Tiffany Massey and Aryn McGowan were the winner and loser in games one and two, respectively.
 
The third game of the series scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, March 12, has been postponed due to impending inclement weather.
