Claflin Falls to Augusta in Non-Conference Baseball Contest

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University baseball team fell to Augusta University 12-5 in a non-conference baseball contest in Orangeburg.  The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Panthers who dropped to 6-14 overall.
 
Augusta improves to 10-11 on the season.
 
The Jaguars scored seven of its 12 runs over the first three innings; two in the second and five in the third. 
 
The Panthers scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. 
 
Claflin scored an additional run in the bottom of the fifth but Augusta countered with four runs in the top of the sixth to regain the momentum.
 
The Panthers scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh while allowing one run by Jaguars in the ninth for seven run loss.
 
Craig Hopkins scored two runs with one RBI and three walks to lead the Panthers.  Michael Kendrick scored two run with two hits.
 
Johnathan Parnell, II contributed three hits with an RBI.
 
Ty Hobbs scored two runs with RBI and José Nogueras had two runs with one hit and three RBIs to lead Augusta in the win.
 
Jake Wotell picked up the win while Jamal Devine was the losing pitching.
 
Claflin will open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, March 18-19, against Spring Hill College.  First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch while Sunday's single game will also have a 1 p.m. start.
