Jasper, Ala.—The Claflin University softball team went 1-1 on opening day of the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Crossover Tournament in Jasper, Ala.
The tournament, which runs through Saturday (March 18), is being contested at Memorial Park in Jasper.
Claflin defeated Lane College 8-2 in its opening game and fell to Spring Hill College 10-2 in the second game of the day.
The Lady Panthers will face Kentucky State (12:15) and Miles College (4:45 p.m.) on day two of the tournament.
In the opening game, Chelsea Hall had an outstanding outing, going 3-for-3 with three runs and a RBI.
LaKaylin Lee went 2-for-3 with a run, Erica Davis went 2-for-4 with a run and Chelise Morman hit her team leading sixth homerun and recorded three of the teams four RBIs.
Alonna Moore went 1-for-3 with a run to lead Lane College College.
The Lady Panthers out-hit the Lady Dragons 13-3 in game one.
Shaquailla German picked up the win in game one.
In game two Spring Hill scored three runs in each of the second and third innings and one in the fourth to take control of the contest.
Hall hit a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the lead to five, 7-2, but the Badgers offense remained solid.
Spring Hill scored three additional runs in the top of the sixth and held the Lady Panthers scoreless in their half of the inning, en route to the eight run victory.
Yemaya Rich was the losing pitcher of game two for the Lady Panthers.
