Albany State Sweep Claflin in SIAC doubleheader

Albany, Ga.-- Albany State University defeated Claflin University, 9-0 and 5-3, in a pair of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) baseball games Saturday.
 
The doubleheader sweep by the Golden Rams dropped Claflin to 9-24 overall and 3-8 in conference play. Albany State lifted its season record 10-20 overall and 8-3 in league play.
 
The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
In the first game, the Panthers could manage only two hits against Albany State starter Tristan Rice. He gave up singles to Johnathan Parnell, II and Lyndale Morely in going the distance (seven innings). Rice struck out five batters and walked three.
 
Keamond Eison, 2-6, took the loss for Claflin.
 
Nic Griggs led the Golden Rams with a pair of hits and three RBIs. Kelvin Wimbish had two hits and a RBI for Albany State.
 
The Panthers committed five errors in the game.
 
In the second game, Albany State scored three-run in the bottom of the fifth inning to wipe out a 3-2 Claflin lead en route to the victory.
 
Parnell had given Claflin the 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run single that scored Silvaris Hooks, Jr. and Johnny Stevenson.
 
Elliott Melton drove in the Panthers first run in the fifth off an RBI single that brought home Rashad Webster.
 
Brandon Pearson was the winning pitcher for Albany State, while Dillon Parker, 0-1, suffered the loss for the Panthers.
 
Albany State was led at the plate in game two by Theo Smith with a hit and 2 RBIs. Robbie Feagans had two hits and RBI for the Golden Rams.
