Albany State Sweep SIAC Series from Claflin

Albany, Ga.--Albany State scored nine runs in the last two innings en route to a 17-8 win over Claflin University Sunday in the finale game of their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) baseball weekend series.
 
With the defeat, Claflin fell to 3-9 in conference play and 9-26 overall.
 
Albany State improved to 11-20 overall and 9-3 in the league.
 
The Panthers scored three runs in the sixth inning to trail 8-7, all coming as the result of RBI walks from Jonathan Parnell II, Darrell Langston and Rashad Webster. The Golden Rams response with four runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth in putting the contest safety away.
 
Claflin last run of the game came in the ninth on Jeturi Brown's RBI ground-out.
 
The Panthers held a brief 1-0 lead in the first inning off a solo home run by Langston. The homer was Langston sixth of the season.
 
Albany State took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs.
 
Claflin then tied the contest at 2-2 in the second on Brown's grounder that scored Lyndale Morley. The Golden Rams gained the lead for good in their bottom half of the second at 4-2 with two runs.
 
Rashad Bivens run-scoring single for the Panthers in the third, cut the Albany State lead to 4-3.
 
The Golden Rams gained some breathing room over the next two innings by outscoring Claflin 4-1 for an 8-3 advantages.
 
Langston led the Panthers at the plate with three hits and two RBIs. Bivens and Brown contributed a hit and an RBI each for Claflin.
 
Morley and Elliott Melton had a triple and a double respectively, for Claflin.

Albany State was led by Quantico Dodson-Will with three hits and two RBIs. Kelvin Wimbish added two hits and three RBIs for the Golden Rams.
 
Tyler Wilcher recorded the win for Albany State, while Eric Dubose, 2-7, was the loser for Claflin.
 
Claflin will return to action Tuesday (April 11) for its mid-week game at Lander University.
