Claflin Face Clark Atlanta in SIAC East Division Matchup

Orangeburg, S.C.— The Claflin University men's basketball team will look to get back in the win column, Monday, Jan. 22, when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Clark Atlanta University.
 
The pivotal Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Eastern Division matchup, which is set for an 8 p.m. tip-off, will follow the Claflin-Clark Atlanta women's game set for 6 p.m. 
 
This will be the first of two matchups of the season between the two.  The teams will meet again in Orangeburg on Monday, Feb. 5.
 
Last season the teams split the two regular season contests with each team winning on their own court.  Claflin won the first meeting 82-70 in Orangeburg and Clark Atlanta won by four in overtime, 78-74, in Atlanta.
 
Claflin (17-2, 10-1) is coming off an 86-75 loss to Morehouse on Saturday (Jan. 20).  The loss snapped a 16-game winning streak for the Panthers.
 
Despite the loss, Claflin finished with three players in double-figures led by Austin Lawton and Benjamin "Tre" Williams with 14 points.  Jaleel Charles dropped in 12 points in the loss. 
 
Triston Thompson and Timothy Christian, II pulled in seven rebounds each to lead the Panthers on the boards.
 
Charles and Williams are averaging in double-figures for the Panthers at 15.5 and 13.6, respectively, to lead the Panthers in scoring.  Charles also leads the team in rebounding at 8.5 boards per outing.
 
Clark Atlanta, who is tied with Morehouse for the top spot in the SIAC East, brings an undefeated conference record into the contest at 11-0.  They are 17-1 overall.
 
Clark Atlanta has five players averaging in double-figures led by Akil Douglas at 13.1 points per game. Douglas also leads the team in rebounding at 5.9 rebounds per game.
 
As a team Claflin is averaging 74.8 points per game and are allowing 63.6 points while Clark Atlanta is averaging 81.4 points and are allowing 69.1 points.  Both teams have drained their fair-share of three pointers with Claflin connecting on 121 and Clark Atlanta draining 162.
