Claflin Host Albany State in a SIAC Basketball Doubleheader Monday

Orangeburg, S.C. -- The Claflin University men's and women's basketball teams will host Albany State University in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Eastern Division doubleheader, Monday, Jan. 29.

The doubleheader gets underway with the women at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at approximately 7:30 p.m. in Tullis Arena on the Claflin University campus.

It will be Military/ROTC Day with military personnel in uniform or with ID and visiting ROTC students admitted for a special price. Tickets must be purchased on-site to receive the discount.

The Claflin women (13-8, 9-3 SIAC) will enter the contest winners of its last seven of eight games. In their last outing, the Lady Panthers defeated Fort Valley State 72-52. Jhanice Stokes led the way with a double-double, 19 points-13 rebounds.

This will be the second matchup of the season between Claflin and Albany State (11-11, 7-5 SIAC). In the earlier meeting the Lady Panthers came away with a 60-54 win. In that outing, Ashley Fields was two assists shy of a triple-double with 16 points-12 rebounds-8 assists.

The Panther men will be looking to end a three-game slide when they host Albany State (2-18, 2-10 SIAC) on Monday. In their last outing, Claflin (17-4, 10-3 SIAC) fell to Fort Valley State 69-58. Austin Lawton and Benjamin "Tre" Williams scored 15 points each for the Panthers.

In the earlier meeting of the season between Claflin and Albany State, the Panthers defeated the Rams 65-53 in Albany. Jaleel Charles recorded a double-double, 19 points-11 rebounds, and Williams dropped in 18 points in victory.

Both teams will return to action this Wednesday, Jan. 31. The Lady Panthers will play their final non-conference game when they host Virginia Union at 6:00 p.m. The Panther men will host Morehouse in a pivotal SIAC Eastern Division game. Tip-off is set for approximately 8:00 p.m.
