Claflin Lady Panthers Defeat Anderson for Homecoming

Orangeburg, S.C. – Dashia Jackson and Deja Dickens posted career-highs of 21 points apiece in leading the Claflin University Lady Panthers past Anderson University, 77-71, for homecoming at the Tullis Arena on Saturday (Nov. 17).
 
The homecoming win, Claflin's sixth straight win for homecoming, evened the Lady Panthers worksheet at 2-2 for the season.
 
Dickens, who collected 13 points in the first half, finished the game with six three-pointers and six rebounds for the Lady Panthers.
 
Jackson was near-perfect from three-point range, connecting on five-of-six for Claflin.
 
Two other Lady Panthers came off the bench to score in double-figures, Ashley Fields with 15 points and five assists followed by Donna Long at 10 points.
 
Anderson, now 2-2, was led by Ace Easter with 20 points followed by Alexy Mollenhauer at 18 points and 15 rebounds.
 
In the second half, Claflin rallied from two points down late in the fourth quarter for the non-conference victory.
 
In the final quarter, Anderson closed the gap at 63-62 with 4:21 left on Easter's three-point basket. She later tied the contest at 66-66 on a layup with 3:07 left.
 
Erin Cepeda provided the Trojans its second lead of the game at 68-66 with 2:33 left in the ballgame.  The lead did not last long as Dickens drilled a three-pointer with 1:50 left to Claflin the lead for good at 69-68.
 
Long followed Dickens basket by scoring five of the next six points for Claflin, giving the home team a 74-69 lead with 40 seconds left.
 
Claflin sealed the win by scoring three of the final five points.
 
In the third quarter, Anderson outscored Claflin 13-10 and trailed 51-44.
 
In the first half, the Lady Panthers set the tone early in the first quarter by jumping out to an 8-0 lead at the 8:09 mark.
 
The Trojans quickly cut the margin to a bucket at 8-6 with 6:33 left in the quarter on back-to-back three-pointers.
 
Claflin pushed its lead back to eight points at 16-8 with 4:16 showing on the clock when Onyeka Monyei hit a pair of free throws.
 
Anderson outscored Claflin 8-7 the rest of the quarter to trail 23-16 heading into the second period.
