Claflin Falls in 2018-19 Basketball Season Opener to Florida Tech

Tampa, Fla. - The Claflin University women's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season with an 82-35 loss to Florida Tech on Friday (Nov. 9), in the opening game of the University of Tampa Tournament.
 
Claflin, now 0-1, will conclude play in the two-day tournament Saturday (Nov. 10), taking on host University Tampa at 7 p.m.
 
Dashia Jackson was the only player to score in double-figures for the Lady Panthers with 12 points. She was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
 
Dejà Dickens contributed eight points that included a pair of three-pointers for the Claflin, while Onyeka Monyei added seven rebounds in the loss.
 
November Morton led three Florida Tech players who finished in double-figures, with a game-high 16 points.  Gracie Doane scored 14 points with 10 rebounds and Aniquah Swan added 12 points with 12 rebounds for Florida Tech, who improved to 1-0. 
 
Tereza Sedlakova contributed nine points with a game-high 18 rebounds for Florida Tech in the win.
 
In the contest, Claflin offense scored its highest output of the game, 13 points, in the third quarter. The Lady Panthers generated just seven points in each of the first and second periods to trail 50-14 at the half. 
 
Claflin was outscored in the fourth 15-8.
 
The Lady Panthers finished the game shooting just 20% (13-66) from the field compared to 39% (29-75) for Florida Tech.  Claflin knocked down four three-point baskets, while Florida Tech had 11, including six in the opening quarter.
