Fields Leads Claflin Lady Panthers Past Lincoln

Lincoln University, Pa.Ashley Fields posted her third double-double of the season, 26 points-14 rebounds, as the Claflin University Lady Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 71-51 win over Lincoln University (PA) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest on Wednesday (Dec. 19).
 
Claflin will take a 7-7 record into the holiday break, that includes a 5-3 record in the CIAA. The Lady Panthers will return to action on Jan. 4, 2019 at Winston-Salem State University for a CIAA contest.
 
Fields came three points short of a career-best of 29 points she posted against the University of Tampa earlier in the season. She was 7-of-13 from the field and near-perfect at the free throw line at 13-of-14. Fields also added four assists and five steals.
 
Two other players scored in double-figures for Claflin, Deja Dickens with 13 points and Dashia Jackson with 12 points. Carmen Robinson pulled in 10 rebounds for the Lady Panthers.
 
Kwanza Murray was the only player in double-figures for Lincoln, now 5-7 and 1-2, with 16 points and nine rebounds.
 
In the fourth quarter, Lincoln staged a comeback, outscoring Claflin 16-10 to pull within five, 56-51 with 2:56 remaining in the game.
 
The Lady Panthers ended the rally by scoring the game's last 15 points en route to the road win.
 
At the start of the third quarter, Lincoln trimmed Claflin 12-point halftime lead to nine, 34-25, with 9:17 remaining on the clock, but that's would be the closest the home team would get in the period.
 
The Lady Panthers outscored Lincoln by a 12-10 margin the rest of the quarter to lead 46-35 after 3 complete.
 
There was little scoring in the first four minutes of the opening quarter as the two teams combined for just nine points with Lincoln ahead 6-3. Jackson accounted for Claflin points with a three-pointer to open the scoring of the game. Lincoln scored six unanswered points to take the three-point advantage.
 
Claflin ended the quarter with a 14-5 run over the final 3:44 minutes to lead 17-11. The run was highlighted by two three-pointers and four free throws.
 
The Lady Panthers opened the second quarter with a 7-1 run to extend its six-point first quarter lead to 10 points, 24-12, by the 5:55 mark.
 
Claflin later held a 16-point advantage twice, the last at 33-17on a basket by Shakarri Mack with 2:34 left before intermission.
 
The Lady Panthers led 34-22 at the half.
