Claflin Split Conference Doubleheader with Morehouse College

Third Game of Conference Series Postponed Due to Weather

Atlanta, Ga. (3-24-18) – The Claflin University baseball team split a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader with Morehouse College, winning game one 13-9 and dropping game two 9-7, Saturday (Mar. 24) in Atlanta, Ga.  The third game of the SIAC series was postponed due to inclement weather.
 
With the split Claflin record goes to 8-20 overall and 4-1 in the SIAC.  Morehouse goes to 10-17, 1-4 in the SIAC.
 
Claflin jumped out to a huge 8-3 lead after three innings in game one of the doubleheader.
 
Morehouse scored four runs in the fourth to pull within one, 8-7.
 
After neither team crossed the plate in the fifth, Claflin put up five in the sixth to increase lead to six, 13-7.
 
Morehouse scored two in seventh leaving one stranded.
 
Jonathan Parnell, II had one run, two hits including a three-run homer, with five RBIs to lead Claflin.  Darrell Langston had two runs, one hit with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
 
Dillion Parker went a complete game in picking up the win.
 
Jason Davis and Barnes Roos each finished the game with two runs and two hits apiece.
 
Anthony Dodd was the losing pitcher in game two.
 
Morehouse scored one run in the bottom of the first to open the scoring in game two.
 
With one out and two runners on Malik James hit a three-run homer to give Claflin the two run advantage, 3-1.
 
After the Panthers put up one run the top of the fourth, Morehouse scored two in its half of the inning to take a 5-4 lead.
 
Claflin remained poised, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth via a RBI walk by James and a RBI sacrifice fly by Parnell.  The runs put the Panthers back up by one, 6-5.
 
After holding Claflin scoreless in the sixth, Morehouse put up four runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, 9-6.
 
The Panthers put up one run in the seventh off another RBI by Parnell, but could not get any further runs across.
 
Parnell once again led the Panthers going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
 
James went 2-for-3 including the homer with four RBIs and Eric McElveen had two runs with three hits in the loss.
 
Torriun Towers was the losing pitcher of record in game two.
 
Amyr Smith had two hits and three runs while Jaren Maner had three hits with one run for Morehouse in the contest.
 
Dem Burton was the winning pitcher.
