Claflin Drops Weekend Series to Saint Rose

Orangeburg, S.C. -- The College of Saint Rose took all three baseball games from Claflin University over a three game series March 3 and 4 at Mirmow Field.  The Golden Knights swept the series 20-1, 6-0, and 12-5.
 
The loses dropped Claflin to 2-16 heading into Thursday (Mar. 8) mid-week doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State University at home. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m. with the second to follow 30 minutes after the completion of the first one.
 
The sweep improved The College of Saint Rose record to 4-3 for the season.
 
On Sunday, the Golden Knights pounded out 18 hits in defeating the Panthers 20-1.
 
The lone Panther run came off the bat of Clyde Parker, an RBI single that scored Grayland Fowler in the sixth inning. Parker finished game 2-4 and Fowler was 2-3 with a double.
 
Mark Powell led the Golden Knights with a 4-5 day at the plate including a home run.
 
Brandon Budlong was the winning pitcher for The College of Saint Rose, while Cleveland Westbrook took the loss for Claflin.
 
In the opening game on Saturday, Greg Musk held the Panthers batters in check with four hits in going the distance with a shutout in defeating the Panthers 6-0.
 
Darrell Langston, Grayland Fowler, Jalen Sprull and Eric McElveen had one hit each for the Claflin.
 
Andrew Pedone was the Golden Knights leader with two hits and two RBIs. Matt McKinnon added a hit and two RBIs.
 
Dillon Parker took the loss for Claflin in going the distance, allowing nine hits and striking out seven Golden Knights batters.
 
The second game saw The College of Saint Rose scored six runs in the first two innings and six more in the seventh for the12-5 victory.
 
Alexander Koshqarian led the Golden Knights at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs followed by Joe Foran with a home run.
 
Claflin, which only had three hits in the contest, was led by Craig Hopkins at the plate going 2-for-4 with an RBI and Silvaris Hooks with 1-for-2 with an RBI. Parker also drove in a run.
 
Steven Burke picked up the win on the mound for The College of Saint Rose, while Alfie Carter suffered the loss for the Panthers.
