Claflin Softball Predicted to Finish 2nd in the CIAA

Charlotte, N.C. – In the first season competing in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) the Claflin University softball team was selected to finish second in the 2019 Preseason Poll as selected by the CIAA coaches and sports information directors and announced on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

Claflin, who previously competed in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) until making the move to the CIAA on July 1, 2018, finished the 2018 campaign with a 27-28 overall record.

The Lady Panthers will open the 2019 season this Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 2-3, when they travel to Newberry, S.C. to Mercyhurst and Newberry College. Claflin opens with Mercyhurst on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by the matchup with host Newberry at 3 p.m.

The Lady Panthers will face the same two teams on Sunday at the same time.

Claflin then travel to Acworth, Ga. to participate in the HBCU Division II invite, Saturday-Friday, Feb. 9-10, before its 2019 home-opener against Francis Marion on Wednesday, February 13.
