Claflin Falls to Converse in Non-Conference Volleyball Match

Orangeburg, S.C. – Converse College battled from one set down to defeat Claflin University 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-11, 25-15) in a non-conference volleyball match on Tuesday (Oct. 22) at the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Center (Tullis Arena).
 
The win improved Converse season record to 9-15, while Claflin drops to 5-15.
 
In the Lady Panthers' lone set win, there score was tied 14 times before Claflin scored the last two points of the set for the 26-24 victory. The Lady Panthers collected 10 of its 25 kills in the set.
 
The next three sets saw the visitors from Spartanburg collect 39 of its 56 kills. Claflin managed just 15 in the final three sets.
 
Converse edged the Lady Panthers in the digs department by a 73-68 margin.
 
Erin Preston and Jala Roberts led the Claflin offense with seven kills each. Preston also tallied seven assists and Roberts hit double-digit in digs with 12.
 
Jada Jones also hit double-figures in digs for the Lady Panthers with 11, while Briana Reed slammed home three serve aces.
 
Converse was led by Brittany Tepedino and Elizabeth Coffey with 17 and 13 kills, respectively.  Tepedino also had 21 digs.
 
Lauren Tharrington dished out 26 assists and for Converse.
 
Claflin will return to action this Saturday (Oct. 26) at home against Livingstone College in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division match at 2 p.m.
