Lady Panthers Sweep Livingstone to Avenge an Earlier Season Loss

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University women's volleyball team swept Livingstone College, 25-15, 25-15 and 25-18, Saturday (Oct. 26) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division match in Tullis Arena.  The win snaps an avenges an earlier season loss where the Lady Blue Bears defeated the Lady Panthers, 3-1, in Salisbury, N.C.
 
Claflin, 6-12, 5-7 CIAA, held Livingstone to just 21 kills in the match while putting down 35 of its own. 
 
Claflin's defense was solid all match Livingstone to a -.05 hitting percentage.  The Lady Panthers defense did not allow the Lady Blue Bears to eclipse the 10 kill mark over the course of the three sets. Livingstone had seven kills in the first, six in the second and eight in the third.
 
Taylor Drayton and Jala Roberts continued to be the offense threats for the Lady Panthers putting down 11 and 10 kills, respectively.  Drayton finished the match with a double-double as she finished with a team-high 11 digs for 12 points.
 
Vianca Colón Gonzalez ran an effective offense putting up 14 set assists.  Erin Preston came off the bench to contribute eight assists while Trinity Fierce and Jada Jones put up eight and seven digs, respectively.
 
Livingstone was led by Alexia Crutchfield who put down nine kills to lead Livingstone.  The Lady Blue Bears had three players to finish with double-digit digs led by Amari Champion with 13.  Bethaney Williams and 12 and Victoria Onozie had 10 for Livingstone, who drops to 10-8 overall and 6-7 in the CIAA.
 
Claflin will hit the road for its next two matches beginning Monday, Oct. 28 at Benedict followed by a trip to CIAA Foe Fayetteville State University on Thursday, Oct. 31.
