Elizabeth City State Defeats Claflin in Women's Basketball Non-Conference Action

Elizabeth City, N.C. – The Claflin University women's basketball team remained winless on the season, falling to Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), 50-40, in a non-conference basketball game on Thursday (Nov. 21).
 
The win by ECSU is the first over Claflin in the last four games. The victory also gave the Vikings their first win of the season four outings.
 
The Lady Panthers, now 0-4, will continue their road trip on Saturday (Nov. 23) at Virginia State University in their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) opener. The contest tips off at 2:00 p.m. at the Virginia State University Convocation Center.
 
The low-scoring contest generated only 39 points in the first half. The Lady Panthers outscored ECSU 16-12 in the opening quarter followed an 8-3 margin in the second quarter to lead 24-15 at the half.
 
The third quarter saw the Vikings pull within three-point at 37-34 by outscoring Claflin 19-13 in the quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Panthers offense went cold, scoring just three points while going scoreless over the last seven minutes. ECSU held a slim 41-40 lead with 6:49 left but put the contest away by scoring the game's last nine points.
 
Dionna Long continued to play solid for Claflin, finishing with 13 points including 50% (3-of-6) from three-point range with four steals.
 
Shakarri Mack contributed nine points with seven rebounds (six defensive) and Tatyanna Hollis dropped in eight points for the Lady Panthers.
 
Daisha Jackson pulled in eight rebounds with six assists in the loss.
 
ECSU was led by Asia Deal with 16 points and five assists.  Devona Stell added 14 points while Siren Pitts dropped in eight points for the Vikings.
