Lincoln (Pa.) Tops Lady Panthers in Non-Conference Basketball Action

Lincoln University, Pa.Shakarri Mack scored a career-high 20 points but it wasn't enough as Lincoln University (Pa.) defeated the Lady Panthers of Claflin University, 81-54, in a non-conference women's basketball game on Thursday (Dec. 12).
 
The loss puts Claflin at 0-8 on the season heading into Saturday (Dec. 14) game at Bowie State University. The teams will meet again on Saturday, Jan. 18 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) contest in Orangeburg.
 
Mack, who's previous best was 17 points against Livingstone College last season, was 7-for-11 from the field that included a three-pointer and 5-of-6 at the free throw line.
 
Breanna Price was the only other player in double-figures for the Lady Panthers with 10 points to go along with five rebounds. Dionna Long contributed nine points, four assists and four steals, while Danyelle Riddick had eight points with a team-high eight rebounds.
 
For the game, the Lady Panthers were 19-for-48 (39.6%) from the floor compared to Lincoln who shot 29-for-63 (46.0%). Both teams missed five free throws with the Lady Panthers connecting on 14-of-19 (73.7%) and the Lions hitting 13-of-18 (72.2%).
 
Claflin won the battle on the boards, out rebounding Lincoln 37-30.
 
Lincoln, which improved to 9-1 on the season including a six-game winning streak, was led by Kwanza Murray with 18 points and Bryanna Brown at 16 points.  The Lions had four players to finish in double-figures as Joy Morton and DeAshia Young dropped in 12 and 10 points, respectively. 
 
Lincoln scored the first 11 points of the game to take a 11-0 by the 6:11 mark of the first quarter. The Lady Panthers used back-to-back baskets from Riddick and Price to halt the Lions run to trail 11-4 with 5:21 on the clock.
 
Claflin pulled within four, 13-9, at 1:40 mark of the quarter when Mack hit one of two free throws. The four-point deficit would be the closest for Claflin in the quarter, as Lincoln finished the quarter scoring five of the last seven points to lead 18-11.
 
The second quarter saw the Lions reel off nine straight points at the start to extend their lead to 16 points, 27-11, with 6:41 remaining in the half.  Lincoln outscored Claflin 19-11 the rest of the quarter to take a 46-22 lead at the half.
 
The Lady Panthers offense managed to outscore the Lions 19-16 in the third quarter, but trailed 62-41 heading into the final quarter.  In the quarter, Claflin shot 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from the field with a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe.
 
Lincoln won the fourth quarter 19-13.
