Claflin Wraps Up Road Trip at Bowie State

Bowie, Md. – The Claflin University men's basketball team will conclude its two-game road trip at Bowie State University on Saturday (Dec. 14) for a non-conference contest.
 
The contest will be played at the A.C. Jordan Arena on the Bowie State campus following the women's contest at approximately 4 p.m.
 
The men's game will feature two teams that posted difference results the last time out. Claflin claimed its second straight win, a 76-61 decision over Lincoln University, while Bowie State's two-game winning streak was snapped in overtime by Johnson C. Smith University, 80-76.
 
Both teams will enter the matchup with records under the .500 win-loss mark as Claflin is 4-6 and Bowie State at 5-6.
 
Both teams are averaging in the 70-point range with Bowie State scoring 75.5 points and Claflin a few points less at 71.3 points.  Claflin is shooting a little better from the field at 44.1 percent (250-for 567) as compared to Bowie State mark of 42.9 percent (277-for-646).
 
The Panthers has two scorers averaging in double-figures in Letrell West and Brandon Davis.  In the Panthers four wins, West averaged 23.5 points that includes 14 three-pointers and shot 59.6 percent (31-for-52) from the field. Davis tallied 12.5 points in the wins and shot 52.7 percent (19-for-36) from the floor.
 
For the season, West leads the team in scoring at 14.8 points and 22 three-point baskets, while Davis is second with 10.8 points. Both are shooting over 50 percent from the field as West is hitting 51.1 percent (48-for-94) and Davis at 50.7 percent (37-for-73).
 
Romero Hill has been another key contributor for Claflin, averaging 7.4 points with five games in double-figures this season. Hill has knocked down 10 three-pointers and dishing out a team-high 2.7 assists per game.
 
Bowie State is led in scoring by Cameron Hayes and David Belle at 15.0 points and 13.0 points, respectively. Hayes and Juwan Smith are the team's top three-point shooters with 19 apiece.
 
In last year's meeting, the Panthers pulled out a hard-fought 69-65 win.
 
After the Bowie State game, Claflin will return to the confines of the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Complex for two Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games before the Christmas Holiday break. The Panthers will host Saint Augustine's University's (Dec. 18) and Shaw University (Dec. 21).
