Claflin Softball Return to Action at Coker

Hartsville, S.C. – The Claflin University softball team will return to action, Thursday, Feb. 21, when they travel to Hartsville, S.C. to face Coker College in a non-conference double header. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m. at the Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field on the Coker Campus.

Claflin will be looking to rebound from an 0-5 outing last weekend in the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational in Due West and Greenwood, S.C.

The Lady Panthers, who bring a 5-8 overall record into the double header, is led at the plate by freshman Chaston Huntly who is batting .353. Claflin has four players total averaging above .300. Senior Kayla Cato is hitting .351 with three homeruns, sophomore Jada Ames sits at .343 and senior LaKaylin Lee is batting .324 for Claflin, who has amassed 89 hits with 10 home runs.

Coker enters the double header with a 10-2 overall record. The Cobras are led by Alex Alverson who is batting .500 on the season. Chloe Pelham is batting .474 for Coker, who has 85 hits including six homeruns this season.

After having its original home opener postponed, Claflin will open its 2019 home season this Saturday, Feb. 23 when they host Barton College in a non-conference double header.

First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the Adden Street Field in Orangeburg, S.C.
