Claflin Routs Benedict in Baseball

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University Panthers won their sixth straight game with an 18-8 decision over rival Benedict College in seven innings on Wednesday (Apr. 10) at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
The winning streak is a season-high for Claflin, surpassing the mark of five straight earlier in the season.
 
The Panthers are now 20-10 overall and 16-8 at home this season.
 
Benedict dropped to 13-12 with the road loss.
 
The 18-run output is the second-highest this season for the Panthers, which scored 21 against The College of Saint Rose on March 6.
 
Eric McElveen led the Claflin hitting attack, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs and 5 RBIs followed by Clyde Parker at 2-for 3 with two runs and 3 RBIs.
 
Other top hitters for the Panthers included Jalen Sprull, who was 3-for-4 along with an RBI and three runs scored, Craig Hopkins with a hit and 2 RBIs\ and Nicholas Johnson added two hits. Edzaviah Paul scored four runs for Claflin Panthers.
 
Benedict was led by Myles Snype at 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
 
Angel Morel, 2-1, picked up the win on the mound for the Panthers, while Keati Buchanan, 0-2, suffered the loss for Benedict.
 
Claflin will return to the baseball diamond on the road this weekend in a three-game series against Clark Atlanta University. Action gets underway on Saturday (Apr. 13) with a single game at 4 p.m. followed by a double-header on Sunday (Apr. 14) starting at 1 p.m.
