General Romanda Noble-Watson, SID

Claflin Athletics Spotlight Series

Orangeburg, S.C. -- Throughout the Fall 2020, the Claflin University Department of Athletics will spotlight a member of its coaching and athletics staff. This week's spotlight is on Sports Information Director Romanda Noble-Watson.
 
Romanda Noble-Watson is in her sixth year as the Sports Information Director at Claflin University.  She joined the University's athletic administrative team in 2014 after 17 years at NCAA Division I programs.  Noble-Watson brings a vast knowledge on communication and promotion and a solid work ethic to the Panther staff.
 
A native of Washington, D.C., she served as the assistant sports information director at South Carolina State University for seven years (2007-2014) prior to coming to Claflin. Prior to her stint at S.C. State, Noble-Watson served as the assistant sports information director at Howard University for six-and-a-half years (2000-2007) and as the sports information director at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore from 1997 to 2000.
 
In the summer of 2020 Noble-Watson was selected as the D2SIDA Secretary and is in her second term as the secretary of the CIAA SIDA.  Also, in the summer of 2020 she received the Women Leaders in College Sports Pioli Family Endowed HBCU Membership Scholarship.

Noble-Watson is a member of the media coordination team for the NCAA Division I Women's College World Series, the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Regional Committee (Region III) and previously served as on the NCAA Stats Advisory Board for volleyball.  She has also served as the timeout coordinator for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament (2013 and 2014). 

Noble-Watson is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA), Women Sports Information Directors of America (formerly FAME), Women Leaders in College Sports and College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), where she is a member of the Special Awards Committee and a mentor in the CoSIDA Mentorship Program.

She received her bachelor's degree in communication studies from the University of Maryland University College, and her master's in communications management from Webster University.
 
She is married to LTC (Ret.) Anthony L. Watson.
