Claflin SAAC President Gari Forehand Named an Inaugural Cohort of Zoom Scholar

Orangeburg, S.C. – Claflin University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president and women's track and field athlete Gari Forehand has been named one-of-eight Claflin University's Inaugural Cohort of Zoom Scholars. The scholars were introduced Wednesday, Jan. 27, during a meeting with Zoom CEO and Founder, Mr. Eric Yuan, and Claflin University President, Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack.

Forehand is one-of-two scholars from the Claflin School of Education.

"I was shocked when I found out that I was one of the inaugural recipients of the scholarship," said Forehand, who is a thrower on the Lady Panthers track and field team.  "I am very honored and appreciative of the person who nominated me for this scholarship. I feel privileged to be chosen, as not everyone has the opportunity to receive such an honor."

The scholarship is in conjunction with the five-year strategic partnership signed between Claflin and Zoom Video Communications, Inc. last June.

"Gari is an outstanding leader for our athletic program and it is great to see her being recognized for her academic achievements," said Director of Athletics Tony O'Neal.

Claflin Outdoor Track and Field will open its season Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Savannah State Eye-Opener.
