Claflin Softball Host ECSU for Senior Day

Orangeburg, SC -- The Claflin University softball team will host Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), Thursday, Apr. 22, for its final regular-season home doubleheader.

The first pitch for game one is set for 1 pm at the North Road Complex. No spectators will be allowed in the complex. Live streaming will be available beginning at 12:30 p.m.

It will be senior day, with five Lady Panther softball players along with two track and field student-athletes will be honored in a pregame presentation.

Claflin brings an 8-1 record into the contest after sweeping Shaw in their last outing, Sunday (Apr. 18). ECSU brings a 6-8 record into Thursday's matchup.

This will be the second matchup between the Lady Panthers and Vikings in a week. When they met just over a week ago in Elizabeth City, NC., the Vikings and Lady Panthers split the doubleheader. ECSU won the first game 4-1, and the Lady Panthers defeated the Vikings 13-5 in five innings.

Chaston Huntly had two hits and scored the lone run for Claflin in the opening game. Marion Goins had two hits and Jada Ames contributed one run and an RBI in game one.

Huntly continued to play solidly, finishing game two 3-for-4 with two home runs, one grand slam, and six RBIs. Camryn Hollis was 2-for-4 with two runs in the game. Jada Ames and June "Olivia" Montgomery contributed two hits each in the contest

Bre'Zhay Chambers, who went four innings allowing three earned runs, was the losing pitcher of record while Jaelyn Jackson, who went 4.2 innings allowing just three hits and no runs, picked up the win in game two.

Claflin will hit the road for its regular-season finale, Tuesday, Apr. 27, when they travel back to Shaw University for a single game beginning at 3 p.m.
